Privacy policy

What personal data INAH collects, why, who it is shared with, and your rights.

Version 1.0Last updated 6 November 2026

Draft for legal review. This text must be reviewed and approved by INAH's legal adviser before the platform launches.

Who we are

The International Network for Avian Health (INAH) is the controller of the personal data processed on this platform. Contact details are in the site footer.

What we collect

  • Account data: name, email address, password (stored as a one-way hash), country, time zone, and the dates you accepted our terms and this policy.
  • Profile data you choose to publish: position, organisation, specialisations, qualifications, publications, biography, links and, if you allow it, contact details.
  • Activity data: memberships and payments (amount, status, invoice number — never card numbers), course enrolments and progress, quiz results, certificates, webinar and event registrations and attendance, training applications and uploaded CVs, group memberships, posts, comments, bookmarks and notification preferences.
  • Technical data: session cookies needed to keep you signed in, and server logs (IP address, browser) kept for security.

Why we use it (legal bases)

  • To provide the services you sign up for — the contract with you.
  • To verify listings, prevent abuse and keep the platform secure — our legitimate interests.
  • To send newsletters and analytics cookies — only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To keep financial records — legal obligation.

Who can see your data

You control the visibility of your profile and contact details (public, members only or hidden) from your dashboard. Group coordinators see the members of their groups; course instructors see the progress of their learners; INAH staff see what they need for verification, support and administration. Industry partners do not receive members' personal data.

Processors

We use service providers to host the platform, send email and process payments (Stripe). They act on our instructions under data-processing agreements.

How long we keep it

Account and profile data are kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, your personal data is anonymised; payment records are retained for the period required by accounting law. Data exports are deleted after seven days.

Your rights

You can access, correct and download your data (Account settings → Your data) and delete your account at any time. You may also object to processing, ask us to restrict it, and complain to your data-protection authority.

International transfers

INAH is an international network. Where data is transferred outside your country, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
